One rather unlikely but excellent example of performing well on camera, in order to raise profile, in order to do better business, and to build a town (yes, build a town) comes in the form of quilting queen Jenny Doan.
Jenny and her husband, Ron, lost most of their savings in the 2008 financial crisis. Retirement was just around the corner and they didn’t know how they would make it through. That’s when the family went all-in on an unusual business, a quilt shop – which included using YouTube to reach customers.
Jenny was not an early adopter of video it has to be said, and her first attempts were fairly wooden. But listen to her bizarre and heart-warming story here, in this excellent podcast:
